POV (point of view)

Point of view (POV) refers to the perspective from which a story or narrative is presented.

It is the angle from which a writer, speaker, or filmmaker chooses to tell their story, and it can greatly influence how the audience interprets and receives it. The term has become popular in recent years thanks to TikTok and the creators who publish on the platforms.

The “POV” kind of content usually contains a headline explaining a specific situation and reflects the creator’s perspective or just a typical reaction to particular circumstances. You can see an example here

The “POV” trend has spread to other social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube, and it is now applied to different formats, including written posts where the creator shares their thoughts and experiences.

In literature and film, the point of view is usually determined by the narrator or protagonist of the story. For example, a first-person point of view is when the narrator is a character in the story and refers to themselves as “I.” This type of POV allows the reader to experience the story from the character’s perspective and to get a sense of their thoughts and feelings.

A second-person point of view is less common but still used, where the narrator addresses the reader as “you” to create a sense of immersion and involvement in the story. This type of POV is often used in interactive fiction or video games.

A third-person point of view is when the narrator is not a character in the story and refers to the characters as “he” or “she.” This type of POV can be either limited, where the story is told from one character’s perspective, or omniscient, where the narrator has access to the thoughts and feelings of multiple characters.
