NPC

On social media, “NPC” stands for “Non-Playable Character.” This term originates from video game culture and refers to characters in a game who are controlled by the computer rather than by a player.

In the context of social media and internet culture, “NPC” is sometimes used metaphorically to describe individuals who seemingly conform to certain ideologies or opinions without critically thinking or expressing independent thought.

For example, if someone expresses views that appear to be repetitive or lack originality, others might refer to them as an “NPC” as a way of implying that they are simply echoing pre-programmed responses, similar to non-playable characters in video games.

Encountering “NPC” on social media means that someone is using this term, either playfully or critically, to describe someone who seems to follow certain beliefs or trends without engaging in independent thought or analysis. It’s part of the way online communities discuss and sometimes mock the perceived lack of individuality in certain expressions of opinions or behaviors.
