- Buffer reviews on Reddit: the questions people keep asking
The compliment Buffer gets most often on Reddit is that it is simple. The reason people give most often for moving off it is also that it is simple. Those are 24% and 12% of the opinions we counted, and between them they explain most of what Reddit thinks of this tool.
Reddit is also where Buffer’s reputation splits in two. The threads are broadly warm about it, while its Trustpilot page is not, and the two sets of complaints are not even about the same things. Below is how we counted, what the 117 opinions from 97 independent people contain, and what to make of that gap.

Key Takeaways
- Buffer’s Reddit reputation is good and unusually calm. Across the 117 comments that give an opinion, the dominant notes are simplicity and price, not failure. Complaints about posts not publishing appear in 2 comments.
- Simplicity is the most common compliment and the most common complaint. 24% of comments praise how simple Buffer is. 12% describe outgrowing it for the same reason.
- Analytics is the single most discussed subject at 26%. It is where Buffer is most often compared with something else rather than judged on its own.
- One comment in seven about Buffer comes from someone with a commercial interest. 32 of the 212 mentions we found, and half of those disclosed it.
- Reddit and Trustpilot describe different products. Buffer’s Trustpilot one-star reviews cluster around support, billing and posts that did not publish. On Reddit, posts not publishing appear in 2 of 117 comments.
- Comment moderation barely comes up. Engagement is touched on in 8% of comments, which matches how Buffer positions the product.
How we did this
NapoleonCat makes a competing product, so every count below is set out in full and can be repeated. We searched 16 subreddits for Buffer and found 1,109 threads, of which 591 were posted since August 2024. We pulled every comment from the 120 with the most discussion, which came to 2,115 comments.
The word “buffer” is the problem with this particular sweep. It appears in threads about cash buffers, video buffering and buffer stock, so a raw count is meaningless. Filtering to comments that name Buffer as a social media tool left 212. Removing the 32 written by people with a commercial interest left 180, and 117 of those give an opinion rather than just naming the tool in a list. Those 117 come from 97 people across 9 subreddits.
The year split is 17 comments from 2024, 51 from 2025 and 49 so far in 2026. We weighted towards the last 24 months because Buffer launched its Community inbox in November 2025 and changed its pricing in the same month, so older threads describe a different product at a different price.
Finding 1: one comment in seven comes from someone with a commercial interest
Of the 212 comments naming Buffer as a tool, 32 came from someone with a commercial interest in the answer. That is 15%, or roughly one in seven.
Half of them said so. Sixteen of the 32 carried an explicit disclosure in the text, from a plain “co-founder here” to a line explaining that the writer runs a tool-review site.

The second kind of disclosure is more common than people expect, and just as useful to see.

The remaining sixteen read as ordinary recommendations and were identifiable only from the account’s posting history or the tool being promoted. This is worth knowing before you read any recommendation thread, and the tell is quick: click the username and look at whether the account recommends the same tool everywhere it appears.
Finding 2: simplicity is what people praise, at 24% of comments
Twenty-eight of the 117 comments describe Buffer as simple, clean, easy or minimal, and they mean it as a compliment. This is the most consistent positive in all 117 comments, and it holds across small business owners, solo creators and agency staff.
The phrasing is unusually consistent too. People describe Buffer as the tool that does what it says without a learning curve, and several name it specifically as the thing they recommend to someone who found Hootsuite or Sprout Social too heavy.

Finding 3: 12% describe outgrowing it, for exactly the same reason
Fourteen comments call Buffer basic, limited or something they outgrew. Read alongside Finding 2 these are not contradictory: the same design decision produces both reactions depending on what the reader needs.
The specific ceilings people name are reporting depth, client management and approval workflows. Nobody in this set describes leaving Buffer because it failed at scheduling.
Finding 4: analytics is the most discussed subject at 26%
Thirty-one of the 117 comments raise analytics, reporting or insights, making it the single largest theme. It is also where Buffer is most often measured against something else rather than judged on its own terms.
Buffer rebuilt Insights in April 2026, and its free plan keeps 30 days of history against unlimited on paid plans. A buyer who needs client-facing reports should treat this as the thing to test during the trial rather than a settled question.
Finding 5: price is raised in 24% of comments, and usually favourably
Twenty-eight comments discuss cost. Buffer is generally named as the cheaper option, and the free plan is cited as a genuine reason to start there rather than as a limitation.

The per-channel model does draw criticism from people managing many accounts, which is consistent with the arithmetic: the rate falls as you add channels, but the bill still rises.
Finding 6: the Trustpilot one-star reviews and the Reddit threads do not match
Reddit and Trustpilot describe the same product very differently.
| Source | Rating | Reviews | What the negative reviews are about |
|---|---|---|---|
| G2 | 4.3 / 5 | 1,040 | Mixed, no dominant theme |
| Capterra | 4.5 / 5 | 1,492 | Star breakdown not published on the listing |
| Trustpilot | 3.4 / 5 | 116 | Just under half are one star, clustering around support, billing and refunds, and posts that did not publish |
| Not a rating | 117 opinions | Posts not publishing appear in 2 comments |

We read all 54 one-star reviews on Trustpilot. Unresponsive support appears in 12 of them, billing and refunds in 10, and posts that did not publish in 8, followed by channels disconnecting and Instagram’s notification-based publishing feeling like more work than posting natively. Those counts come from the review excerpts Trustpilot shows on the listing rather than the full text, so treat them as indicative rather than exact.
On Reddit, none of that dominates. Posts not publishing come up twice in 117 comments, and support six times.
Two things make the gap smaller than it looks. Trustpilot holds 116 reviews against 2,532 across G2 and Capterra, and a page that small moves quickly. And people who write on Trustpilot are usually there to report a specific failure, where Reddit threads are mostly people answering “which tool should I use”. Neither sample is wrong; they are answering different questions. If reliability or support is your concern, it is the thing to test during the 14-day trial rather than something either source settles.
Finding 7: engagement is 8% of the conversation, which matches the product
Nine comments touch comments, inbox, replies or moderation. That is low for a social media tool, and it lines up with how Buffer describes itself.
Buffer launched Community in November 2025 and states that it is included with every Buffer plan at no extra cost. It covers ten platforms and lets you reply to comments, filter and sort them, use saved replies and AI reply suggestions, and track a comment score.

Two limits are worth knowing before you rely on it. Buffer states that it can only pull in comments from organic posts, so Community cannot be used to reply to comments on ads. And its Community pages describe no hide or delete action and no rule-based automation.
Should you buy Buffer in 2026?
Buffer makes sense if:
- publishing and scheduling are the job, and you want the shortest path to doing them
- you have a small number of channels, or a large team and few channels, since users are free on Team
- you want to start at zero and upgrade only when three channels stop being enough
- you value a tool that is easy to hand to someone else without training
Look elsewhere if:
- you need comments on ads and boosted posts brought into one inbox
- you need spam or abuse hidden or deleted automatically by rule
- you need client reporting deeper than what a scheduling tool provides
- you manage many channels for few people, where per-channel billing works against you
If automated moderation is the missing piece, it is worth weighing NapoleonCat as a Buffer alternative, with rule-based auto-moderation on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn company pages, and ad comment moderation on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. That sits on the Expert plan, from $139 a month or $119 billed annually for 2 users and 5 profiles, because the cheaper plans either have no inbox or moderate by hand.
Buffer reviews on Reddit: the questions people keep asking
Is Buffer good in 2026?
On the evidence of 117 independent Reddit opinions, yes for publishing. Simplicity is the most common compliment at 24% of comments and price is raised favourably in another 24%. It scores 4.3 on G2 across 1,040 reviews and 4.5 on Capterra across 1,492.
What do Reddit users dislike about Buffer?
The most common criticism is that it is too basic, in 12% of comments, usually about reporting depth, client management and approval workflows. Complaints about posts failing to publish appear in 2 of 117 comments, which is markedly lower than on Trustpilot.
Is Buffer’s free plan worth using?
It allows three channels, ten queued posts per channel, one user and 30 days of analytics, and it includes the Community comment inbox. It is a permanent plan rather than a trial.
Does Buffer handle comments and DMs?
Buffer’s Community inbox covers comments on ten platforms and Buffer states it is included with every plan at no extra cost. It supports replying, filtering and sorting, saved replies and AI suggestions. Buffer states it cannot pull comments from ads, and its Community pages describe no hide or delete action and no direct messages.
How much does Buffer cost?
Essentials is $6 per channel a month, or $5 billed annually, with one user. Team is $12 per channel, or $10 annually, with unlimited users. Rates fall as you add channels: $4 each from the eleventh channel on both paid plans, and $3 from the twenty-sixth.
What do people switch to from Buffer?
Switching is discussed in 6% of comments, and the tools named vary too much to call a pattern. The reasons given cluster around reporting depth and client workflows rather than price or reliability.
