BeReal

BeReal is a photo-sharing social media app designed to facilitate genuine interactions.

The application sends daily prompts at random hours, and its users have two minutes to take an unfiltered photo of where they are and what they do and share it with friends. If a user misses the notification, they can still post later on, but their followers will see that the photo was posted late. 

The application was created as a response to the overly filtered, staged content posted on platforms like Instagram. The users are supposed to show what their real, everyday lives look like. In a broader context, BeReal is also a response to the popular trend of being in the moment, increased transparency, and authenticity.

The app was released in 2020 and gained popularity in 2022.
